The Scientific Tools and Techniques Program (STT) at Fernbank Science Center The Scientific Tools and Techniques Program (STT) at Fernbank Science Center is a semester-long course designed to familiarize students with the tools and techniques of scientific inquiry. STT students practice problem-solving skills utilizing a fully integrated science curriculum. Through laboratory and fieldwork, students explore all aspects of science, gaining a better understanding and a greater appreciation for the scientific process. The program is free of charge and is open to any student that will attend a DeKalb County School for 9th grade. Students apply through a DeKalb County Middle School in the Spring of their eighth-grade year. The middle schools handle all applications and make all selections. Selection criteria are based on grades, teacher recommendations and student interest in science. Applications will be available Monday, January 27th and will be submitted directly to the Peachtree Charter Middle School, not to Fernbank Science Center. The deadline for submitting application materials is Wednesday, February 19th @ 4pm. For specific information about the application process, please contact Mrs. Crowder at 678-676-7788 Room 805. Your opinion is very important to us. Your survey responses are confidential and will be combined with the survey responses of other parents at PCMS to identify areas in need of improvement. It should only take ten or fifteen minutes to complete the survey. The survey deadline is March 1. Please know that survey responses are anonymous, self-reported, and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Lemonade Days T-Shirt Art Contest Would your student like to design the next Dunwoody Lemonade Days t-shirt? Have them stop by the Art Room (Room 200) and see Mrs. Newton for more details. Environmental Science Club The Environmental Science Club which maintains the PCMS garden gives a shout out to RPG Tree Service for donating the beautiful mulch for the school garden. The Environmental Science Club is currently growing various organic leaf lettuces for the Malachi Storehouse, a food bank across the street at St. Patrick's Church. We'll soon be starting our World Famous Sweet Potatoes for the summer crop. Any student interested in joining the Environmental Science Club should come on Tuesday mornings, at 8:00 am to the 7th grade pod in Ms. Bustamante's room. Membership is open to all and you do not have to come every week. Come have some fun playing in the dirt outside! Unfortunately, due to cost, PCMS is no longer able to send these Remind messages. Patriot Fund Corporate Match Representative: This is an easy way to volunteer from the comfort of your own home and makes a big impact to the school. When people donate to the Patriot Fund they indicate if their employer provides corporate matching. In this role, you remind folks to follow up with their employers and then validate that the matching donations have been received. Patriot Fund Marketing Representative: In this role you get to use your creativity to come up with fun ways to promote the Patriot fund via PCMS membership toolkit emailing system. There is no direct solicitation but more awareness and reminders as to why the fund is important. This role is also invited to join the Finance Committee monthly meetings. Patriot Games Co-Chair: This parent volunteer will work with the other co-chair, Kim Rivera, to coordinate the food and volunteer participation in the 3 day field day event. Patriot games is 3 days with a different grade level each day full of field/gym games with a lunch provided to the students. Ideally the co-chairs are available to participate each day at the school or train another volunteer to help with the game day activities and/or food. This year's dates are May 6, 7 and 8. PCMS Kindness Campaign No Place for Hate, the counseling department, and the PCMS Foundation have teamed up in order to take a proactive approach to bullying by focusing on a school-wide Kindness Campaign.
